Deedee Wilkinson is a Community Support Professional for Region V Services Seward. She has worked for Region V Services for 22 years this year.
Deedee loves working for Region V Services Seward because she gets to teach people new skills, explore new thoughts or ideas. Over the last 15 years, she has developed a special bond with the individuals she supports, and coming to work doesn’t feel like working anymore.
What does a normal day look like for you?
Most days start at the individual’s house, assisting him in learning to complete household tasks. Then the day varies depending on what the individual wants to do that day. With Covid, we have been very resourceful in finding outdoor activities and smaller group activities to be involved in. In the afternoons, I take him to work and provide job coaching a couple of days a week.
What’s a favorite moment you’ve had with a person you support?
Going on a plane ride was on the individual’s bucket list, so we made it happen! I helped the individual find someone in the area who flew planes and asked them if they would take us on a ride. The individual was glad she crossed that off her bucket list, but said, one time is enough!
Tell us about a time you were proud of an individual you serve.
I got to help an individual go from living with his family to living totally on his own. I help him learn everyday activities such as grocery shopping, paying his bills, doing his laundry, even learning to drive a car.
When Deedee isn’t working, she loves to read books, spend time with family and her animals and she loves going on vacation. If she could live anywhere besides Nebraska, she would choose New Zealand.
